Lego feedback mechanism, 'Jury' crucial in product development

Gamers addicted to the Lego hit, "Portal" have other gamers and a jury to thank for seeing the potential of video games that get transformed from idea to reality.   The Lego Portal project was pitched in late June, and took only two weeks to get the 10,000 votes needed for Lego to consider manufacturing it, tech site Mashable reported.   Mashable said a “Lego Jury” that includes designers, project managers and other staff will gather to consider the idea in September.   But it also said Lego has warned the process may be slow, taking many months between giving a project the green light and making the product available in stores.   Aside from this, Lego will have to have a partnership with Valve, which as the maker of the Portal series owns the intellectual property rights to it.   The idea of a "Portal" product was pitched to Lego via its CUUSOO platform, where Lego fans can "petition" the company to make products they want to see.   A product that gets at least 10,000 supporters will merit a consideration from Lego.   If the "Portal" series pushes through, it will not be the first video game-themed Lego set.   Earlier this year, Lego made a "Minecraft" edition of its sets.
