Microsoft unveils New Office in PHL

Good news to Microsoft Office users, the latest Microsoft Office suite will be available in the market soon.

Faithful to the Windows 8 “metro” look and feel, the newest Microsoft Office suite features boast of being touchscreen-ready and Cloud-friendly.

In an exclusive customer preview launch at Makati-Shangri La Hotel, Tovia Va’aelua of Microsoft Philippines demonstrated the various new features of different Microsoft Office applications. Va’aelua is Microsoft Philippines’ business group lead for the Microsoft Office division.

“The new Microsoft Office allows you to get things done at home, school, and work without having to switch between multiple devices,” Va’aelua said.

The Office suite presented in the event is also the same version launched in the United States by Microsoft Corp. CEO Steve Ballmer.

The new Microsoft Office is touchscreen-enabled, making it easier for users of tablets and touchscreen mobile phones.

The company’s general manager for Cloud Computing Platform Zane Adam said, they designed the new Office suite mainly to level the playing field for business enterprises. According to Adam, because there is no need to install new hardware, the new Office suite may also help even small business enterprises.

The latest Office suite comes with updated Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint applications. All of the improvements are designed to work well in cloud. All of the applications can be edited offline or online using different devices—from mobile phones, to tablets, laptops, and PCs.

Microsoft also offers subscription to Office 365 service which contains the 2013 editions of the Microsoft Office applications. The users of this service, once available, have rights to version upgrades, and per-use rights for up to five devices.

Microsoft Word, for example, can edit PDFs and save in Adobe format. Videos can also be embedded within the file.

Excel comes with revamped analysis tools to visualize the data on the spreadsheet easier. It also has new formatting tools such as Flash Fill, which uses algorithms to recognize users and to auto-complete their data.

New themes, design, and presentation tools are also among the latest improvements of PowerPoint.

OneNote, the note-taking application of Microsoft also has new radial menu, and is best used for touch screen devices.

Microsoft has also added features for social networking within the Office application platform.
