Apple's iCloud portal now out of beta

Apple Inc.'s iCloud.com, a portal offering cloud-based services, is now out of beta and is officially open to the public.

 

The updated site was made available to all iCloud users and allows them to share content across multiple devices, tech site CNET reported Friday.

 

"The site features icons for the Notes and Reminder apps that sync with their iOS and Mac counterparts, as well as Find My Phone and iWork on a Mountain Lion-like background," CNET reported.

 

But CNET also noted the new service went off to a not-so-smooth start, as users complained of not being able to access e-mail.

 

Apple acknowledged the issue but said it affected only 1.1 percent of users, CNET added.

 

CNET said the new iCloud site has a revamped Find My Phone app with a "lost mode" that lets users lock their lost or stolen devices.

 

The iCloud service replaces the now-defunct MobileMe, an earlier attempt by Apple at cloud-based storage and sync service shut down last June.

 

It also said the service also features a new Mail Web app with a VIP list feature that alerts users if e-mails arrive from selected contacts.

 

Also, the new service gives users 5GB for free. Added storage can be purchased. — TJD, GMA News
