Mac Mini, 13in Retina Macbook Pro may be unveiled alongside iPad Mini

It looks like the iPad mini won't be the only device that Apple Inc. will debut at an event on October 23.

Apple enthusiast site 9to5mac.com cited sources that said the tech giant is also set to unveil an updated Mac mini and a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display.

"This new 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina Display is said to pick up the thinner and lighter enclosure of the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display that was released in June," it said.

It added the new 13-inch MacBook Pro will be sold in two configurations, with differing processors and storage.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina units and will be available for purchase soon after introduction, 9to5mac.com said.

"Like with the 15-inch MacBook Pro lines, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display will be sold (at a higher price) in addition to the current non-Retina display model. That computer was updated with faster processers and USB 3.0 in June," it said.

Presently, the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is codenamed D2. The smaller version is internally called D1.

As for the Mac mini, 9to5mac.com cited sources who said these Mac minis will come in two standard configurations, with different storage and processor options, and a third model that runs OS X Server.

These new Mac minis are said to begin shipping immediately after announcement, it added.

"Apple last redesigned the Mac mini with a unibody aluminum enclosure in 2010, and last updated the computer with faster processors last summer. These current Mac minis are on last-generation chipsets and lack USB 3.0, so we should be seeing those components updated in these new models," it said.

Earlier, All Things Digital said that on Oct. 23, Apple may finally take the wraps off what is turning out to be one of the tech world's worst-kept secrets in recent years: the iPad mini.

"Apple will hold a special event this month at which it will showcase a new, smaller iPad. People familiar with Apple’s plans tell us that the company will unveil the so-called 'iPad mini' on October 23 at an invitation-only event," tech site All Things Digital said.

Citing its sources, AllThingsD said the iPad mini may feature a 7.85-inch liquid-crystal display and a Lightning connector, and may be thinner. — TJD, GMA News
