Google honors Herman Melville with doodle on Moby Dick anniversary
Search giant Google on Thursday honored novelist Herman Melville with one of its patented doodles to mark the 161st anniversary of one of his most famous works, "Moby Dick."
Visitors to Google's home page (www.google.com) were greeted with a doodle depicting a scene from the novel where Captain Ahab commandeers a boat to strike at the giant whale.
"Moby Dick" has been hailed as one of the literary masterpieces of American literature.
In the doodle, the sperm whale is spouting in the sea, with its eyes on the whaling boat, while Ahab readies a harpoon against it.
Clicking on the doodle will take the visitor to a Google Search Results page for Herman Melville.
Melville, born Aug. 1, 1819 and died Sept. 28, 1891, is also a short story writer, essayist, and poet. — ELR, GMA News
