PvZ zombies pitch in for oral health
Here's a surprise for trick-or-treaters this Halloween: Zombies from the popular "Plants vs Zombies" game are making a pitch for oral health.
Zombies will be the stars of the oral hygiene drive dubbed "Stop Zombie Mouth," which aims to make children aware of bad breath, plaque and other dangers of eating candy without oral hygiene.
PopCap Games, the makers of the hit "Plants vs Zombies" video game, are teaming up with the American Dental Association by redefining a Halloween treat.
"This Halloween, the ADA and PopCap Games are redefining what a Halloween 'treat' can be… by giving FUN instead of candy. We’re giving away Plants vs. Zombies download games as a sugar-free alternative, and you can join in the fun," PVZ maker PopCap and ADA said.
Also, the "Stop Zombie Mouth" program offers coupons that entitle trick-or-treating children to free copies of the "Plants vs Zombies" game for PC and Mac, which sells for $19.99.
Printable coupons are available on the "Stop Zombie Mouth" site (www.stopzombiemouth.com), and can be a sugar-free alternative to Halloween treats.
Codes can be redeemed between Oct. 30 and Nov. 10.
Too many sweets
The PopCap-ADA tieup also raises consciousness about Zombie Mouth, the effect of eating too many sweets especially at Halloween.
In a message, it said Zombie Mouth is caused by the "Putrid Posse," and has symptoms including toothaches, cavities, rotten gums, and even deadly diseases.
Called the Putrid Posse — D.K., Plak, Rott, and P.U. - the symptoms "team up to tear down teeth and gums and leave your mouth pretty disgusting."
"Naturally, the Zombie isn’t worried about his health — but it’s not too late to save others!" PopCap and ADA said.
7 ways to stop 'Zombie Mouth'
Meanwhile, PopCap and ADA suggested seven ways to stop Zombie Mouth among children:
1. 2x2: Brush for two minutes two times per day with fluoride toothpaste.
2. Floss between your teeth daily.
3. Eat fruits and veggies instead of sugary and starchy snacks.
4. Wear a mouth guard while playing sports.
5. Don’t smoke or use tobacco.
6. Don’t pierce your lips or any other part of your mouth.
7. Visit your dentist regularly. Dentists get lonely!
