Microsoft 'ran out of time' on WP8 notification center

Oops. Microsoft has admitted planning a notification center for its Windows Phone 8 operating system for smartphones —and also having run out of time to put it in.

Microsoft's Thomas Fennel indicated the software giant is is considering a notification center for Windows Phone, tech site The Verge reported.

"Because we ran out of time," Fennel admitted when asked why there was no notification center, the report said.

The notification center, a staple of Google's Android and Apple's iOS, puts in one place the alerts generated by apps installed in the device.

Fennel said the notification center is "very important to me," adding Microsoft gets "tons of feedback" from developers that they want something like that.

"I promise we're thinking very very hard on that one," he said.

The Verge noted that despite Windows Phone 8's live tiles that display updates in real time, a user may still miss a crucial notification especially if the live tile for an app is not enabled.

It quoted other Microsoft representatives as saying the Live Tiles are a way to display notifications.

"But it's clear that Microsoft is considering a system to aggregate toast notifications for a quick overview," it said. — TJD, GMA News
