Fan creates search engine for 'Calvin and Hobbes' comic strip

A software engineer and longtime "Calvin and Hobbes" fan has created a search engine dedicated to his favorite comic strip. Michael Yingling said his creation can search for the full text and description of "every" script of "Calvin and Hobbes." "This page is strictly a tribute to Calvin & Hobbes, the best comic ever, and two of the best characters who have taught me so much over many years. It is meant for research purposes only," he said. Visitors can go to the search engine by logging on to http://michaelyingling.com/random/calvin_and_hobbes/. The Bing on the title of the site appears to refer to Yingling's nickname and not Microsoft's search engine. Yingling said he had always been a big fan of "Calvin & Hobbes" and author Bill Watterson. "Since discovering the complete script online, as well as a collection of every daily strip on another website, I knew I could make the two reference each other and therefore create a 'Calvin & Hobbes Search Engine' for lack of a better name. So I set out to do it," he said. But he said the search presently looks only for exact phrases and is not case sensitive. A separate article on BoingBoing said the search engine "performs pretty much as you'd expect," running against the full text and descriptions of all the "Calvin and Hobbes" strips.  — LBG, GMA News
