Injustice: Gods Among Us release date and 'Battle Edition' announced

Following the success of semi-rebooting their famed “Mortal Kombat” franchise, Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios are busy with preparations to unleash a new kind of fighter this year that will gather DC Comics’ greatest characters into one battle arena : Injustice: Gods Among Us

Set in an alternate universe where the Justice League and their rogue’s gallery fight against each other head-to-head, the sheer force and brutality of their battles lead humanity to fear and dread what comes next. As with any fighting game, it will strictly be one-on-one fighting, with several favorite characters such as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman among the playable characters.

Slated for release on April 16th, Injustice: Gods Among Us will be available through these options – the US “Battle Edition” a Collector’s Edition, and a regular Standard Edition, according to the DC Comics website.   Retailing for $149.99, the Battle Edition will include an exclusive fight stick, decorated with official artwork from the game and laid out with adjustable illumination for the joystick and buttons. The package also includes three exclusive skins for Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, based on their current appearance today in DC Comics – The New 52.

The Collector’s Edition on the other hand will appeal to anyone who’s a fan of DC Comics and collecting merchandise. An exclusive DC Collectible statue featuring Batman, Wonder Woman, the Fortress of Solitude, and The Last Son of Krypton’s rocket ship highlights the package, with a special collector’s edition comic book of Injustice: God’s Among Us serving as a companion to that and the game as well. The three aforementioned DLC skins of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are also included, as well as  a digital download copy of the DC Universe Animated Original Movie “Justice League: Doom”.

With a character roster highlighted by the inclusion of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Cyborg, Nightwing, Harley Quinn, The Joker, Harley Quinn, and more, Injustice: Gods Among Us is set to become one of the new games of 2013 to watch out for coming from the creators of Mortal Kombat. Fans of DC Comics and its characters will be drawn to this, and can prepare for the game’s rich storyline by downloading the now available digital comic prequel of Injustice: Gods Among Us via DCComics.com. Catch the game on stores this April 16, available on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii U.  — TJD, GMA News
