‘Temple Run 2’ hits 20M downloads in 1st weekend
Barely a week after it was released for Apple devices, the sequel to the hit game “Temple Run” has scored more than 20 million downloads, including six million on its first day alone.
Imangi Studios said its “Temple Run 2” for iOS devices was downloaded over 20 million times in its first four days on Apple’s App Store.
“The game rocketed to #1 Free App just eight hours after release, and is currently the #3 Top Grossing App. Free to download, Temple Run 2 is the sequel to the mega-hit original endless runner, Temple Run, which has been download over 170 million times across the App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Marketplace,” it said.
More than six million downloads of the game were recorded in its first day of availability, it added.
An Android version of “Temple Run 2” is scheduled for release later this week.
Also, Imangi Studios said that in less than one week, “Temple Run 2” accumulated over 210 million sessions – or a combined time of over 1,775 years of gameplay.
“The response from fans has been overwhelming. We are thrilled players want more of the Temple Run universe, and we hope to grow and expand the game over the coming months,” said Imangi co-founder Keith Shepherd.
Imangi said “Temple Run 2” features high-res graphics, new obstacles, abilities, player powers, and achievements, in a more challenging world with curvy roads, hills and valleys.
Players must fly down zip lines and speed along in mine carts to get away from the temple dwellers and retain control of the idol, it said.
Meanwhile, “Temple Run” has expanded its franchise with several licensing partnerships in 2012, including apparel with JEM Sportswear, digital comics exploring the back story of the game with Ape Entertainment, card and board games with Spin Master, arcade machines Coastal Amusements and sleepwear with Komar.
In June 2012, Imangi and Disney Pixar launched “Temple Run: Brave,” which rushed to the top slot on the App Store near its release. — ELR, GMA News
