WinZip gets cloud storage capability
File compression software pioneer WinZip has upgraded its bag of tricks with integration with cloud-based services such as Google Drive, SkyDrive, Box, and Dropbox.
The latest version, 17, allows a user to manage data on these cloud-based services from a single app, according to a report on PC World.
"WinZip has evolved to be a much more comprehensive file management tool than it once was. It still provides file compression, but now it also includes the ability to convert documents to PDF, add custom watermarks to PDF files, and post files directly to popular social networks," it added.
While the need for WinZip declined recently due to the rise of high-capacity hard and flash drives, there is now a desire to upload massive amounts of data to social networks or cloud storage services.
"It’s much easier and faster to upload a 100Mb file instead of a 1GB file," it noted.
WinZip comes in Standard and Pro, with Pro having features to strengthen and speed up file encryption, and view photos within a ZIP file without extracting them first.
The app can be downloaded starting at $30, with WinZip 17 Pro costing $50.
For now, it is available only for Windows XP or later, though there are other versions for Mac OS X, iOS, and Android. — TJD, GMA News
