WikiPilipinas upgrades its systems, launches voter awareness program

Regular visitors to Philippine encyclopedia site WikiPilipinas.org may have to bear with slower speeds or even denial of access at certain times of the day due to system maintenance and upgrades.

WikiPilipinas said the upgrade involves transferring the site's contents to a larger server that can accommodate higher traffic.

"During this time, users may experience technical difficulties like slower loading rate or be denied access to site, most especially during the hours between 5 a.m. and 1 p.m., from Feb. 6 to Feb. 28," it said.

Gem Mallorca, WikiPilipinas Project Lead, said the huge traffic from readers shows they are doing the right thing in providing them information for their research work.

“For now, we can only appeal to our readers to please bear with the inconvenience as we are doing its best to provide our users quality and reliable information,” Mallorca said.

Voter awareness

Meanwhile, WikiPilipinas will launch its first voters awareness campaign dubbed #KnowYourCandidate.

According to Mallorca, this is WikiPilipinas’ initiative to change the mindset of the electorate, so they can choose who to vote for based on the candidate’s track record and not merely on name recall and popularity.

“The electorate is evolving, and we intend to use this campaign to play an active role in educating our voters," Mallorca said.

#KnowYourCandidate will be launched on March 4 and will feature the profiles of the senatorial candidates.

It will focus on their track record and campaign platforms.

WikiPilipinas envisions these profiles as the most comprehensive and the most objective profiles of the candidates.

Meanwhile, readers can follow WikiPilipinas on Twitter or like WikiPilipinas on Facebook.

They can also tweet using the hashtag #KnowYourCandidate. — TJD, GMA News
