Upcoming Samsung smartphone may have eye-tracking feature
Eye-tracking software is among the rumored new features of Samsung's upcoming flagship smartphone the Galaxy S4 IV, The New York Times reported. According to the NYT report, an unidentified person who has tried the phone found the eye-tracking feature particularly new and exciting. It also quoted a Samsung employee who spoke on condition of anonymity that the phone will "track a user’s eyes to determine where to scroll." However, the NYT's source would not say what technology was used for the eye-tracking feature, nor if the feature will be demonstrated at the Galaxy S IV press conference in New York on March 14. Eye-tracking systems are not new. Samsung's present flagship phone, the Galaxy S III, has a similar feature called "Smart Stay" that uses the front-facing camera to know when to keep the screen lit. The NYT report noted that, last January, Samsung filed a trademark application in Europe for “Eye Scroll” and then filed for the “Samsung Eye Scroll” trademark in the United States in February. Samsung also filed for the trademark “Eye Pause,” it added. — DVM, GMA News
