These headphones can read your mind

Feeling blue but not sure what song you want your music player to play? This pair of smart headphones may be able to decide for you.

The Mico headphones developed by Neurowear have a brainwave sensor that can learn the wearer's mood and select a song that matches it.

"Aside from an extra bulky appearance, Mico looks like a typical set of over-the-ear headphones, but with the addition of an EEG (electroencephalograph) sensor protruding from the front. According to the developers, the sensor allows the headphones to analyze a person's brain patterns and determine the wearer's mood," GizMag.com reported.

GizMag said these headphones would be an alternative to playlists people put together for occasions.

The headphones will work in tandem with a smartphone app to suit one's mood with a matching song.

"When connected to a smart device running an accompanying app, the headphones will play a song chosen from Neurowear's database that matches the detected state of mind," GizMag said.

Also, the sides of the earpieces can light up to indicate when music is playing, along with how the wearer is feeling.

GizMag said Neurowear had worked earlier on a "Zen Tunes" project, which scanned a person's brainwave data while the wearer is listening to specific songs.

It said it appears to be seen if Neurowear can develop its product further such as to have the headphones play an upbeat song if it detects a person is drowsy. — TJD, GMA News
