Google Chrome adds homonym check, multiple-user shortcuts

Google on Wednesday (Manila time) put the spell- and grammar-checking feature on its Chrome browser a notch higher with a homonym checker.

In a blog post, Google Chrome's Dharani Govindan said Chrome 26 is rolling out for devices running Microsoft's Windows, Apple's Mac, Linux, and Chrome Frame.

"(The) 'Ask Google for suggestions' spell-checking feature (contains) improvements (such as) grammar and homonym checking," Govindan said.

Another new feature includes desktop shortcuts for multiple users or profiles on machines running Windows.

For Mac and Linux, the new Chrome has an "Asynchronous DNS resolver."

Chrome 26 also comes with several security fixes and rewards, Govindan said.

A separate article on tech site The Next Web said a Chrome user can update to the latest release now using the browser’s built-in silent updater, or download it directly from google.com/chrome.

"The improved spell checking includes a refresh of Chrome’s default dictionaries as well as added support for three languages: Korean, Tamil, and Albanian. Furthermore, if you sync your settings in Chrome and Chrome OS, you’ll now notice custom dictionaries are shared across devices as well," it added.

It also noted the grammar and spell-checking improvements use technologies from in Google search and Google Docs as of March 2012, "meaning you can expect that support for additional languages is on the way." — TJD, GMA News
