Oops! Ringing cellphone foils washroom voyeur
A ringing mobile phone foiled an Indian salesman's plot to secretly film his three female coworkers inside the washroom of a supermarket where they worked in the United Arab Emirates, a UAE news site reported late Thursday.
One of the would-be victims, a Filipina cashier, discovered the phone placed inside a box of detergent last March after she heard it ring, according to a Gulf News report.
The Indian, 25, was scheduled to appear Thursday before the Dubai Court of First Instance to enter a plea but failed to show up as the jail guards did not bring him there from his detention, the report said.
Because of this, Presiding Judge Wajdi Al Menyawi adjourned the case to May 6, when the suspect can be brought from his detention.
According to the Gulf News report, the Indian admitted before prosecutors that he secretly filmed his coworkers between March 4 and 8.
Records showed the Indian and his three female co-workers worked at a supermarket in Al Qusais.
Prosecutors accused the Indian of breaching the modesty of his three female coworkers by secretly taking videos of them inside the washroom.
The prosecution records showed the Indian made a hole in the laundry powder box, placed his mobile phone inside, and activated the phone's video mode.
He positioned the box such that he could secretly film his co-workers using the toilet.
But the Filipina, 30, said she discovered the setup when she heard the phone ring last March 7. She said she then handed over the phone to her boss and told him how she found it.
“The management called me and my two co-workers and they showed us that we were filmed while using the toilet. The recording exposed our private parts. The suspect was also shown in the footage while he was positioning the mobile phone,” she said.
A Filipina co-worker added there was footage of her "sitting undressed on the toilet seat as well.”
Further investigation showed there were two 45-minute videos on the phone.
When confronted with the evidence, the Indian apologized to the women, the manager said. — TJD, GMA News
