LG working on 'waterless' washing machine
Rising water bills may no longer be a concern in the near future, if Korean appliance maker LG Electronics executes its plan to build a "waterless" washing machine.
A report on tech site Engadget said the appliance is still in its early stages, and that it is not clear if the gadget will be totally or just virtually waterless.
"Senior Vice President for LG Electronics Home Appliance Division, Kevin Cha, wasn't willing to divulge to us exactly how this laundry magic trick will be performed, or whether it'll be totally waterless rather than just virtually waterless - it's still in the early stages of development and is (for now) a trade secret," it said.
But Engadget noted another LG device, the Styler, can freshen clothes without water or detergent.
The Styler was unveiled at Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, it noted.
Engadget said the Styler is due for an upgrade, "with the company set to add some kind of ironing functionality to the upright clothes cabinet soon."
Meanwhile, Engadget said LG is considering an ecological refrigerator that can remain cool for six hours without any power.
LG also sees 2014 as a big year for its next-generation smart appliances, it added. — TJD, GMA News
