Batgirl, Joker come to Injustice: Gods Among Us
By Tim G. Villasor
Barbara Gordon has arrived and taken her place among the world’s greatest superhumans.
As the second downloadable character announced for Injustice: Gods Among Us, Batgirl takes the fight for the justice to the brawling field in the latest gameplay trailer for the game. Her appearance in the game makes her the latest Batman related character to join the Dark Knight’s roster, and she’s easily a fan-favorite character to boot.
While there have been many other females who have assumed the Batgirl mantle in the comics, Barbara Gordon remains the most iconic and noteworthy person associated with the role. As the daughter of Commissioner Gordon, Batman’s ally and confidante in the Gotham City Police Department, Barbara Gordon was a gifted girl and talented athlete who soon followed in the Caped Crusader’s footsteps to battle criminals and protect her city. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when The Joker invaded the Gordon household, leaving Barbara paralyzed from the waist down with a gunshot to the midsection. Injured but not broken, Barbara would soon heal and redefine herself as a powerful force despite her incapacity, turning into the powerful information broker and computer wiz that Batman and his allies know as Oracle.
Since the relaunch of DC Comics, Barbara Gordon has since resumed the identity of Batgirl and is able to walk again, but part of the history that is associated with her previous disability remains intact in the New 52 universe. In a nod to “Batman: The Killing Joke” WB Games and NetherRealm Studios have added a new skin from that storyline her tormentor, The Joker. Like the Batman Flashpoint skin packed with Lobo, Joker’s new outfit will most likely be bundled together when Batgirl is released, so stay tuned for updates along the way for Injustice: Gods Among Us. Players also have the option to purchase a “Season Pass” for a set price, so act quickly to get more incentives and discounts.
Additionally, Injustice: Gods Among Us has officially been added to the list of games featured in the annual Evolution Fighting Game Championship series this year. You can look up more updates on the official Injustice Facebook page.
Batgirl will retail for $4.99 on PSN and 400 Microsoft Points as the second DLC character for Injustice Gods Among Us. — TJD, GMA News
