Sony unleashes 4G LTE Xperia SP smartphone
This could be the device for mobile people engaged in creating and consuming media content—the Xperia SP, Sony Mobile's newest Xperia smartphone.
With 4G LTE connectivity and a range of media-oriented features, the Xperia SP promises fast connections and a high-definition display.
“The Xperia SP’s premium design, aluminium frame, screen size and illumination all come together in a high-quality device that only Sony’s proven innovation and engineering expertise can deliver,” said Sony Mobile President and Managing Director Yasushi Asaoka.
Asaoka said the Xperia SP can shoot razor-sharp images and vibrant colors in any type of light, with its 8-megapixel camera with High-Dynamic Range (HDR) and Exmor RS.
Such a phone is perfect for the technology-savvy and those who are unwilling to compromise function or style in their smartphones, Asaoka added.
Highlighting the Xperia SP's features are a high quality screen, near-field connection (NFC) connectivity for one-touch function, and even a Battery STAMINA Mode for extended battery life.
Added to these are Sony’s media apps for enjoying photos, music, movies and games on the go.
LTE-capable devices
Sony Mobile has four handset models supporting LTE connectivity: Xperia SP, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, and Xperia V, even as a tablet, the Xperia Tablet Z, may launch soon.
"LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the fastest wireless technology in the world today, a telecommunication standard capable of extremely high-speed data transfers, several times faster than present-day 3G and HSPA+ speeds. LTE is up to 6 times faster than the current 3G network (up to 42 Mbps vs up to 7 Mbps), Sony said.
With LTE, consumers can stream music and video, upload, download and do anything online with their mobile phones, almost as fast as if they using a broadband connection.
* bravia experience
Sony’s Bravia TV engineers worked on the Xperia SP’s stunning 4.6” HD Reality Display to allow razor-sharp pictures and superior brightness.
"The latest Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2 delivers an even better viewing experience by analysing your content type and adjusting the image automatically, making it one of the most intelligent smartphone screens around," Sony said.
It added the engine will make the adjustment by adding new real-time contrast optimization to the sharpness enhancement, high-quality color management and noise reduction.
Sleek and solid
Sony said a unique design innovation is the color-changing "transparent element" with customizable illuminations.
This allows a user to personalize the feature to alert one of incoming calls and text messages, and to pulse to the beat of one's favorite music.
Other features of the new smartphone include:
- Precision crafted co-moulded aluminium frame
- Super-bright 4.6” 720p HD Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2
- One-touch functions with NFC to display content on TV or to share music and photos between devices
- 4G LTE for super-fast entertainment and browsing
- "Transparent element" that can be personalised to change color
- 8MP fast-capture camera with “Exmor RS for mobile”, HDR and Superior Auto for the best photos, even at night or against a strong backlight
- Battery STAMINA Mode for optimum battery life
The Xperia SP comes in white and black, and may hit store shelves by end-May with a suggested retail price of P19,990. — TJD, GMA News
