Adobe brings PDF Reader software to Windows Phone 8

Adobe is finally bringing Reader, its vaunted PDF software, to mobile devices running Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 OS.

The app, which comes as a free download, allows users to open and read PDF documents—including those protected by passwords, Microsoft said.

"Built-in features include the ability to copy and paste, search the text for specific words, and zoom in on a page. Navigate docs quick with thumbnails, then read page-by-page or in continuous scroll mode," it said.

It added that the app can support hyperlinks and bookmarks, "so you can jump directly to a webpage or to a particular section of a PDF."

Tech site The Next Web noted Adobe previously released an app for Windows Phone 7. However, it also noted Adobe's new app is only available in English—at least for now.

Still, it said Adobe’s debut on Windows Phone 8 makes two statements: "Windows Phone continues to attract key applications from important software vendors, and it continues to lack key apps from important software vendors."

"Thus, the Reader application is both welcome and quite late; Windows Phone 8 was released in 2012, meaning that it took Adobe some time to support the new platform," it added.

"As Microsoft picks up more market share, expect more apps to arrive. The pace, however, could use acceleration," said The Next Web. —VC, GMA News
