Photo of new 41MP Nokia camera phone leaked

A possible front view of what appears to be Nokia's upcoming camera-centric phone has been leaked online, a tech site reported last week.

The image, leaked on Twitter by "@evleaks," indicated the device could be dubbed the Nokia Lumia 1020, The Next Web reported.

"The upcoming device has been tipped to sport a whopping 41-megapixel camera and — while this leaked image doesn’t provide hardware details — it certainly suggests that Nokia has plans to bolster the device’s camera software as well as its specs and technology," it said.

"(W)ith a speculated 41-megapixel camera, the EOS could blow the competition away as the top dedicated photo-taking smartphone," it added.

The Next Web also said that the leaked photo indicated the upcoming camera phone will have Nokia's new Pro Cam software.

Speculation had been prevalent over Nokia's next camera-centric device, known as the EOS, that will be the successor of Nokia's 808 PureView.

PureView is Nokia's final Symbian-based handset. Nokia has allied with Microsoft to make phones running the Windows Phone operating system.

The Next Web said the leaked photo of the new device "appears to include new camera software with the ‘Nokia Pro Camera’ tile."

It noted Nokia launched its new Smart Camera software in May when it unveiled the Lumia 925.

Among its features are Smart Camera, which allows bursts of 10 photos to help choose the best shot, and snaps that save space at 5 megapixels.

However, The Next Web said Nokia’s coming high-end camera devices may face more rivalry this year, including Samsung's Galaxy S4 variant with a 16-megapixel camera and 10x zoom. — TJD, GMA News
