Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate trailer reveals what happens after Arkham Origins

For Batman, crime-fighting affords no rest. Even after the conclusion of the events of Batman: Arkham Origins are done, there is still plenty of work left to be done for the young Caped Crusader.

Revealed at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo gaming event, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment have revealed the new trailer to the upcoming handheld Batman game the ties in to the latest Arkhamverse chapter—Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate.

As the name implies, it takes place in the other resident maximum prison facility located in Gotham—Blackgate Prison. After the events of Arkham Origins, the entire complex is taken over by its inmates, forcing Batman’s intervention and steadily forging his relationship with a young Captain James Gordon to quell the violence.

As Blackgate finds itself “under new management,” The Dark Knight will go toe-to-toe with the biggest and baddest villains, and meet some familiar faces for the first time as well, such as Catwoman and Bronze Tiger.

Unlike its Next-Gen console brethren, Arkham Origins Blackgate is a 2.5D Action Game, combining 2D gaming with 3D visuals and hand-drawn comic-like cutscenes narrated by voice actors. Created separately by American video game developing company Armature Studios, the combat and stealth elements of the Arkham Games will still be present in the game, yet utilized very differently following the new mode and switch into hand-held territory.

As there are limitations, Batman will be unable to level up and gain experience points. Instead, the game will be purely item-based, and level design allows players to face bosses in any order they choose.

Naturally, as a tie-in title that follows after the main game, spoilers abound, so play this game as a supplementary to the main Arkham Origins game.
