The Batcave and Firefly to appear in Batman: Arkham Origins

As one of the most eagerly-awaited titles for fall 2013, Batman fans and gamers alike are in for quite the adventure come October when Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, DC Entertainment, and WB Games Montreal unleash their prequel epic installment in the Batman Arkham franchise with “Batman: Arkham Origins.”

Set in the early years of the Caped Crusader’s crime-fighting career, the adventure takes Batman along the streets of Gotham City on the night of Christmas Eve. He will deal with the ruthless mob boss Black Mask and an assortment of ruthless, crazy villains. With a bounty placed on his head and dealing with all kinds of criminals and assassins out to get him, a younger and inexperienced Batman will learn firsthand that his mission will require great effort, as the enemies he will face will determine if he truly is capableof fighting injustice and crime.

During the annual Gamescom convention held in Germany, the developers of Arkham Origins showcased the newest trailer—which not only hinted at more of the events to come, but also familiar teased at locations, characters, and a new villain.

Shown in screenshots and teasing its proper introduction to the series for the first time, the footage confirms that the legendary Batcave will indeed make an appearance—and it takes its inspiration from Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” by having Bruce Wayne suit up his Batsuit after it appears and rises from a hidden floor compartment.

Longtime allies Alfred Pennyworth and James Gordon also appear in the trailer, adding some tension to the story by questioning Batman’s motives during their respective appearances, especially since this takes place years before The Dark Knight has firmly established the career and reputation that will earn the trust and confidence of both father figures.

Finally, the new clip also introduces a brand new villain to the cause of Black Mask’s relentless hunt for Batman—the pyromaniac and fire expert himself, Firefly.

As one of the eight assassins hired by the mob boss, Firefly was a former pyrotechnic expert by the name of Garfield Lynds, who quickly descended to a life of crime and gained a reputation for explosions and arson stints. Wielding a flamethrower and insulated battle armor equipped with wings and flight capabilities, Lynds is a force to be reckoned with, and will definitely put Batman to the test in Arkham Origins.
