Apple pulls out, replaces Apple TV update amid reports of bricking

Apple Inc. has pulled out and replaced a software update for its Apple TV amid complaints that some updates were botched and "bricked" the devices.

Some of the failed updates resulted in Apple TVs losing their contents, or unable to download content from the Internet even when online, 9to5mac.com reported.

"In some particular instances, Apple TVs have also been permanently bricked or they lost the content on the device during the update. Other devices could not download any internet content even when an internet connection was connected," it said.

But on Monday, 9to5mac.com said Apple issued a new version of the update for Apple TV users.

It said the new version is labeled Apple TV Software 6.0, and is build number 11A502.

"This is a substantial increase from pulled 11A470e version. The new Apple TV update brings iTunes Radio, the iTunes Music Store, and new AirPlay functionality," it said.

Shortly after the initial pullout, devices on Apple TV 5.3 were told there is no update available, the enthusiast site said.

Apple TV 6.0 was originally released last Friday with iTunes Radio and other enhancements. — VC, GMA News
