LEGO to debut chronograph, other adult watches in November
Who says you're too old for LEGO wristwatches?
Not LEGO, obviously. The maker of the iconic, wildly popular interlocking bricks, will launch a collection of wristwatches for adults, years after selling kids' watches.
"What is fun is that despite being sized (and styled) for adults (at least adults in terms of age), the LEGO watches for adults have as many fully swappable parts as the kids versions have," said the wristwatch-enthusiast blog site "A Blog to Watch" (http://www.ablogtowatch.com/LEGO-launches-wrist-watch-collection-adults/).
Expected to debut in November 2013, the collection will be officially known as the LEGO Watch System, with interchangeable parts like bracelet links and bezels.
Prices may range from $85 to $185, the blog added.
The blog said the links for the bracelet "can be arranged in a series of colors and styles," though it may also hold quite a deal of nostalgia to those who grew up playing with LEGO.
"While inexpensive and cheeky, it is a fun reminder of something that had a big impact on my youth," blogger Ariel Adams said.
He added some of the cases may be partially aluminum or steel.
"The crystals are mineral glass, and the watches are water resistant from about 50 meters to 100 meters depending on the model," he added.
Specs
Adams said a glimpse of the pre-production watches indicate the cases "are probably 40mm wide, and made out of plastic."
"The variety of colors and styles is really impressive as they range from silly to rather sensible," he said.
LEGO watches include analog and digital dials, though the analog dials could be more popular.
Some of the watches even have a day/date complication, chronograph, and calendar, while others include a magnifier lens on the crystals.
While the watches are produced in China, they will contain Japanese quartz movements, the blog said. — TJD, GMA News
