New Archos, Arnova smartphones and tablets come to PHL market
Archos and its subsidiary Arnova introduced this week new smartphone and tablet lines to establish a foothold in the tech-savvy Philippine market.
While it has been known more for its tablets, Archos will be entering the smartphone race for the first time with models powered by Google's Android (Jelly Bean).
On the other hand, Arnova is introducing new WiFi-enabled models with screen sizes ranging from 7 to 10.1 inches, for entry- to mid- and high-level users.
Archos tablets
Archos is introducing the GamePad, 80 Titanium, and 80XS tablets, with Google Certification.
This means the devices will be bundled with standard Android applications, such as Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube, and Maps.
Archos' 80 Titanium has 8-inch IPS (in-plane switching) panel that offers the best color contrast among tablets of its class.
Its 80 Titanium has a 1.6-GHz Cortex-A9 dual-core processor and a built-in quad-core graphics processor to handle graphics-heavy applications like games and even high definition videos.
The Archos 80 Titanium has 1GB RAM, a front and a rear camera, 8GB internal flash memory (expandable to 64GB via micro SD slot), Wifi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity and a mini-HDMI port.
Meanwhile, the new 8-inch 80XS has a keyboard that doubles as a magnetic cover board.
It has a 1.6GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 processor, 1 Gb of RAM and 8GB of internal flash memory, expandable to 64GB via micro SD, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
Also, it can also connect to a TV to become a media player via mini-HDMI.
The Archos GamePad features dedicated dual analog sticks, dual four-way directional buttons and shoulder buttons.
It allows the Archos GamePad to convert typical touch controls of hundreds of Android games into physical, button-based controls.
Archos 50 Platinum and 53 Platinum smartphones
On the other hand, Archos is entering the smartphone market with its Archos 50 Platinum and 53 Platinum 3G.
The 50 Platinum offers tablet-like features with a bright 5-inch IPS panel, a powerful quad-core Qualcomm processor running at 1.2 GHz, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal flash memory and a dual-SIM slot.
It has a 2,000 milliampere (mAh) battery life, providing 161 hours standby time.
The 53 Platinum has a 5.3-inch IPS panel and a bigger battery life at 2,800 milliampere (mAh), allowing 264 hours' standby time and 15 hours of talk time.
Childpad
Arnova introduces the Childpad, a 7in tablet designed for school children with a colorful shell and a six-month license of Mobile Parental Filter of Editions Profil.
7in G3
The ultra-thin Arnova 7h G3 tablet features a seven-inch capacitive multi-touch screen at 800x480 pixels, with an ARM Cortex A8 processor running at 1 GHz, with 512 MB RAM, and 4 GB storage.
Arnova's 7i G3, priced at P4,995 is an upgraded version of the Arnova 7h that has 1GB RAM.
Arnova's 10-inch G3 has an ARM A8 processor running at 1 GHz, with 1GB of memory and 4GB internal flash drive.
The 10d G3 has a dual-core ARM A9 processor running at 1.2 GHz, 1GB RAM and 4GB internal flash memory. It also has a front-facing camera, built-in speakers, microphones and micro SD and micro USB.
Meanwhile, Arnova introduces the 97 G4, a 9.7-inch tablet with a dual-core ARM A9 processor running at 1.6 GHz and a 1GB RAM. — TJD, GMA News
