HTC smartwatch in the works?

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC is planning to enter the smartwatch market with an Android-powered device, according to a report on Bloomberg.

 

Quoting a person familiar with the matter, Bloomberg said HTC plans to release the smartwatch in the second half of 2014.

 

But HTC declined to comment on the matter, the report said.

 

With the smartwatch, HTC will be competing with Samsung and Sony, and possibly Apple.

 

Apple designers are already working on a smartwatch even as the firm sought trademark protection for “iWatch” in Japan, Bloomberg noted.

 

Also, the Bloomberg report said HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang met with workers at a town-hall style meeting to push for an improvement in its customer focus.

 

HTC had suffered its first quarterly loss this year due to low market share for HTC smartphones. — TJD, GMA News
