3D-printed toothbrush can clean teeth in 6 seconds

This 3D-printed toothbrush could clean your teeth in six seconds, but it will clean your wallet of $300 first.

Meet Blizzident, which looks more like a mouthguard with 600 bristles than the toothbrush we're all familiar with.

"You bite down into the 3D replication of your mouth and grind your teeth on the bristles, which cleans all of your teeth simultaneously," tech site Mashable reported.

It quoted Blizzident spokesman Chris Martin as saying the new device was designed "to make toothbrushing as easy as c."

Martin admitted the six-second brushing time was a "side effect" of the device's goal to make sure the cleaning technique is as masterful as a dentist's, Mashable said.

But the item may not be readily bought off the shelf – your dentist will take an impression of your teeth then send it to Blizzident, which may need 12 weeks to come up with the custom toothbrush.

Precision machines

The toothbrush will not be made using present-day 3D printers, which may produce rough surfaces. Instead, they are printed using high-precision machines.

As a result, the Blizzident will cost about $300, excluding payment to the dentist for making the impressions.

"The brush lasts a full year, since the bristles do a lot less work that those of traditional toothbrushes," Mashable said.

It added buyers can replace the brush for $159 or send it back to the company.

For $89, Blizzident can replace the bristles and disinfect the brush. — LBG, GMA News
