Mod turns GTA V city into ruined underwater metro
By TIM G. VILLASOR
Making modifications, or mods, to an existing build isn’t an uncommon thing, but when someone manages to break through the Playstation 3's version of “Grand Theft Auto V” to turn the game’s fictional sprawling city of Los Santos into an underwater nightmare, it will certainly get a lot of people talking.
Created by the modder Bushigan, this custom firmware mod to Rockstar Game’s 2013 hit has leveled the entire metropolis based on real-life Los Angeles with a tsunami, and almost every bit of the town that isn’t on high ground is now underwater.
Playing as Michael De Santa, one of the three leads, the demo video showcasing this extraordinary strange feat has the character clothed in scuba gear, and after running out of his own mansion and riding a vehicle as normal, sees the entire city literally submerged.
Later parts of the video feature other instances where, via skydiving, you can see how the mod has displaced and wrecked the natural order of things.
Another video features one of the game’s most memorable vehicles, the submarine, used to great effect with the mod’s environmental change. Airlifted via chopper and crashing right at the heart of the drowning Los Santos, Bushigan guides the yellow vessel around the neighborhood. . .Which now has parked vehicles floating aimlessly and survivors struggling to get to shore in one piece.
Using a jailbroken PS3, a hacker was able to manipulate and turn one of 2013’s best games into a watery demonstration of a city. However, this practice is an unauthorized use of the console, and newer software updates released by Sony for the Playstation 3’s system software render exploited mod chips and areas of the system obsolete.
“GTA V” is currently available for the PS3 and Xbox 360. — KDM GMA News
