iPhone 6 to have interchangeable lenses?

Photo enthusiasts may want to look out for the next iteration of Apple Inc.’s flagship smartphone, as it could feature interchangeable lenses, a tech site reported this week.

Citing a report from the Chinese-language IT168, T3.com said the iPhone 6 will come with a 10-megapixel sensor, a wider f1.8 aperture and interchangeable “resin” lenses.

“The lenses are reportedly created using a new resin called ARTON. According to sources, Japanese company JSR will be providing the lenses based on the new resin,” it added.

In turn, it said the IT168 report in turn was quoting supply chain sources in Taiwan.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 6 later this year, T3 noted.

T3.com cited JSR’s marketing material claiming the lenses offer superior “optical characteristics” and “dimension stability” that are “best suited for optical applications.”

T3.com said there is evidence suggesting Apple may indeed come out with a phone with interchangeable lenses, as Apple was recently granted two patents for interchangeable lenses for the iPhone.

“However, it is too early to know if the technology described in the patents will make it into the next generation of iPhone,” it said. — VC, GMA News
