Viber adds iOS feel and function to its iPhone app
Popular instant messaging-VoIP app Viber is finally getting a long-awaited update for Apple's iOS platform, gaining several new features and iOS 7's "flat" look.
Viber said version 4.2 of its app for iOS can send multiple photos and videos simultaneously as well as send longer video messages.
It added the new app now has a block list that can let users keep out unwanted contacts, and is now fully compatible with iOS 7.
The company claims more than 300 million users who "text, call, and send photo and video messages worldwide over WiFi or 3G" for free, and calls landlines and mobile numbers via Viber Out.
Viber 4.2 weighs in at 37.2 megabytes.
On the other hand, Viber said that while the updated app has the flat iOS 7 look, it can still run on the older, 3D-themed ios 6.
It added the app is optimized for the iPhone 5.
About time
A separate article on TechCrunch said Viber's update came in months after Apple released iOS 7.
It quoted Viber CEO Talmon Marco as saying the new app was redesigned "for simplicity and ease of use."
"Taking our cue from the clean, flat look of iOS 7, we wanted Viber to feel like a completely seamless part of your device. Our top priority is the enthusiastic community of users who rely on Viber every day to communicate with their friends, family, and important contacts. The new iPhone version we released today will make it easier and more fun than ever before to stay connected," Marco said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
