Batman: Assault on Arkham trailer features Joker and the Suicide Squad

Just as the next Batman animated feature prepares to see release and introduce Damian Wayne/Robin as the “Son of Batman”, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment are readying fans for The Dark Knight’s next adventure, and this one is set in the same universe as the critically acclaimed Batman Arkham video game franchise.

In a sneak peek of the next DC Universe Animated Original Movie entitled “Batman: Assault on Arkham” over at ComicsAlliance.com, the Caped Crusader races against time to stop his archrival and nemesis The Joker from detonating a bomb that will destroy Gotham City.

Unfortunately, his mission won’t be a walk in the park either, as he’ll have to contend with the presence of Amanda Waller and “Task Force X”, better known as the paroled team of criminals under the government’s leash known as the Suicide Squad.

Comprised by the likes of Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and even the Joker’s girlfriend Harley Quinn, the odds in Batman’s favor to save the day don’t look so good. Unfortunately, he’ll have to find a way to save the city with them, while making sure that the Squad doesn’t take innocent lives in the process either.

Set to come back to the role that made him into the definitive “Voice of Batman” for over 20 years, Kevin Conroy once again returns to lend his brave and sturdy voice acting skills as Bruce Wayne and Batman in Assault on Arkham. However, he’ll be paired with a very different Joker and recent new addition to the Batman legacy, as Troy Baker reprises his role as the Clown Prince of Crime after stepping in for veteran Mark Hamill in “Batman: Arkham Origins” and “Injustice: Gods Among Us”. The film will be directed by Jay Oliva, who has also handled “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns”, “Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox”, and “Justice League: War”.

While no exact release date has been given for the direct-to-video “Batman: Assault on Arkham”, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have slated the animated film for a mid-2014 release. That means it still coincides with the year-long celebration of Batman’s 75th Anniversary, as well as the upcoming release of the next and final installment of the Batman Arkham franchise by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham Knight. — TJD, GMA News
