...and then there were three: Segway finally offers 3-wheeled vehicle

For years, Segway has made a name for itself through its iconic two-wheeled, self-balancing personal electric vehicles. It was touted to be so revolutionary that inventor Dean Kamen proudly proclaimed:

“Segway will be to the car what the car was to the horse and buggy.”

But now the company seems to be singing a different tune.

Segway has finally buckled and is now making a less-than-revolutionary three-wheeled vehicle dubbed the "SE-3 Patroller," tech site CNET reported.

But the three-wheeled vehicle is not quite for the general public, at least for now - rather, it's aimed at law enforcers and security businesses.

"The electric SE-3 comes with a suggested price of $11,999. It's designed to be more visible, even when it's just sitting around in park, to act as a deterrent to criminal activity. Segway is promoting it as an option for personnel who need to constantly stop and get off on foot. It also comes with emergency lights and a siren," CNET's Amanda Kooser said.

But a separate article on The Verge said Segway's three-wheeled creation may be aimed as well at competitor T3 Motion, which is offering similar three-wheeled vehicles.

T3 Motion also announced it is working on a more advanced three-wheeled vehicle.

"We began this development more than a year ago on the heels of our former CEO joining Segway and announcing they were going to move towards a three wheel platform," T3 CEO William Tsumpes said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
