Google to remove Gmail’s calendar invitation feature in July
Users of Google's Gmail may soon have to say goodbye to a feature allowing them to insert calendar invites directly from within their emails.
Google's product forum managers said the feature is being removed due to low usage, though Google users can still create invites from Google Calendar.
"A few of you have (very fairly) asked why we aren't supporting the feature anymore. The reason is basically because of low usage: amongst our Gmail users, this feature wasn't getting as much usage as others do. Again, we'll still of course support invitation creation, but it's in a different spot now (from Google Calendar)," the Gmail community managers said.
They issued the explanation after some users encountered a message indicating the "insert invitation" feature will "no longer be available" starting July 2014.
Users were also advised they can continue sending email invitations from Google Calendar.
"It (truly!) is always tough choosing which features to continue to support. We make these decisions carefully, so please know that! We'll still be supporting creating invitations, just through different steps," they added.
For now, they suggested a workaround to click into calendar and to create an invitation from there.
Still, a separate article on The Next Web said the move is "likely to irritate a few people." — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
