Dropbox hits 300 million users

Cloud-based file-hosting service Dropbox on Wednesday celebrated a new milestone in its growth, claiming to now have 300 million users.

A blog post marking the feat included an image of a door, with "notches" scrawled on the wall next to it. A picture of Dropbox's logo was hung on the door.

"New notch on the wall," read the post, titled "Thanks for helping us grow."

The top notch on the wall read "300,000,000," referring to the number of users the service now claims to have.

A separate article on tech site "The Next Web" noted Dropbox added 100 million users in just six months.

"Dropbox announced today that it has hit a new milestone of 300 million users, tacking on 100 million users in just six months since it passed the 200 million mark in November 2013. The file-sharing service previously took one year to add on 100 million users from November 2012," it said.

It said the growth could be partly due to Dropbox’s "renewed focus on perfecting and rolling out affiliated services."

Dropbox recently announced cross-device photo and video gallery Carousel, and recently acquired 3D photo stitching startup Bubbli, TNW added. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
