Mozilla Firefox gets sidebar button, GStreamer support
After getting a major facelift earlier this year, Mozilla's Firefox browser is getting new functions including a sidebars button and support for the open-source GStreamer media framework.
Mozilla, which rolled out Firefox 30 this week, said there are versions for Microsoft's Windows, Apple's Mac, Linux, and Google's Android.
In its change log, Mozilla said the sidebars button in the browser chrome "enables faster access to social, bookmark, and history sidebars."
For Macs, it said pressing Command-E "sets find term to selected text."
The new Firefox also has several developer tools and security fixes.
For the Android version, Mozilla said the newest Firefox is customizable with add-ons including ad-blocker and password manageR.
An Awesome Screen "automatically sorts your favorite sites onto one, easy-to-read page," while the Awesome Bar lets Firefox learn a user's browsing habits.
"Firefox’s Android browser is perfect for mobile video, and has mobile video support for a wide range of video formats including h.264," Mozilla said.
It added a Reader feature lets a user "automatically transform cluttered articles and stories into beautiful, easy-to-read pages right in your browser."
Security and sync are other features in the mobile version of Firefox 30. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
