Barbie goes to war in her own 3D-printed armor

This isn't your ordinary Barbie OOTD.

For about $30 (approximately PhP1,300), you can get a template for a 3D-printed outfit to dress the doll up like a medieval warrior.

That's how affordable Jim Rodda (Zheng3)'s "Faire Play Armor Set," compatible with the Barbie Fashionistas line, is. The three printable files include:

  • Athena Makeover Kit
  • Faire Play Parade Armor
  • Faire Play Field Plate Armor

The archive also includes a squiring guide and a PDF printing checklist.

However, an article on BoingBoing.net, which featured the outfit, noted the buyer will have to have his or her own 3D printer, or find one.

A separate article on The Verge said Rodda, a 3D designer, previously designed a number of 3D-printable items of a medieval persuasion.

These include functional miniature ballistae and catapults for tabletop gaming, it said.

It quoted Rodda as telling a Reddit forum he originally intended to create "spring-loaded My Little Pony-compatible glitter cannons" but encountered technical problems.

Also, it said the battle armor set stemmed from a Kickstarter project that raised $6,000 in April. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
