Gmail now lets you 'pin' hangout contacts

Google has added some flexibility to its Hangouts, allowing users to see who among their friends are online—as well as pin their favorite contacts to the top of their lists.

In a Google+ post, Gmail said these new features have been requested by users.

"Starting today it's easier to see which of your chat buddies are currently online, thanks to a new tab in Hangouts in Gmail. In this new tab, friends who are online are shown first, followed by those who aren’t. Of course, you can still send your offline friends a message and they’ll get it the next time they check Hangouts on their computer, phone or tablet," it said.

Also, it said favorite contacts from "your mom, your BFFL, or your crush" can now be pinned to the top of one's contact list.
