Claire Redfield returns for Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Mere weeks after being officially announced to the world at Sony’s fall press conference in preparation for the 2014 Tokyo Game Show, Capcom’s next Resident Evil game, Resident Evil: Revelations 2, finally has its protagonists revealed.

The title's main heroine is none other than Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica star Claire Redfield, who’ll be returning as the lead to face new bio-weapon threats opposite her co-star and new character Moira Burton – the daughter of the series’ popular supporting character and S.T.A.R.S member, Barry Burton.

According to UK-based game news site Push-Start, Claire’s return and Moira’s introduction serve as the highlight for the upcoming November issue of Gamesmaster, which has details on the upcoming new survival horror game.

Set between the events of Resident Evil 5 and 6, Revelations 2 sees both protagonists abducted by mysterious captors and brought to an abandoned island detention facility where the game proper takes place. According to game producer Michiteru Okabe, Claire will have a more combat focused style throughout the game, while Moira provides general support and healing options via health herbs.

Last appearing as a playable character in CODE: Veronica, Claire’s return is a welcomed sight to fans of the series, which is better known as “BioHazard” to Japanese and Eastern audiences. Okabe describes that “In the time since we last saw her, she’s grown to be a seasoned veteran”, alluding to the fact that Claire is more mature and combat experienced compared to her young partner Moira, who is another legacy character with big shoes to fill.

Much like its predecessor, Revelations 2 aims to bring back the “Survival Horror” aspect, skewing the over-the-top action sequences that have become too prevalent in recent installments and concentrating more on unpredictable enemies and a tense atmosphere. In fact, the game will introduce a new kind of enemy in the form of the “Afflicted” - whom Okabe says “may look like zombies, but are in fact something different”. Sounding like a cross between the ghouls and Resident Evil 3’s Nemesis, the Afflicted will force players to decide whether they want to confront them or not, as they are fast and strong enemies that will make one think twice before facing them head on.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is set for release sometime in Early 2015 for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. — TJD, GMA News
