Globe Telecom announces iPhone 6, 6 Plus offering

Apple faithful, rejoice: The wait for a chance to own an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus in the Philippines may soon be over, after at least one carrier started a pre-registration process for the coveted devices.

On Friday, Globe Telecom started offering the new iPhones to subscribers, with a pre-registration microsite going live.

The microsite offered the bigger 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the much bigger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, which boast of A8 chips and the new iOS 8 operating system.

But the wait is not quite over for those who register, as details on pricing - or a timetable on when the phones would arrive - were not immediately available.

Visitors who try to sign up are initially presented with options such as color and capacity, but not much else.

Still, the preorder page does suggest the new generation iPhones, which were unveiled in September, are indeed coming to the Philippines.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus boast a high-resolution Retina display, 64-bit architecture, faster wireless performance and TouchID.

However, the phablet-class iPhone 6 Plus has also been shown to have a potential weakness: it could bend if placed in a pocket for too long. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
