GTA: San Andreas may get 10th anniversary re-release
By TIM G. VILLASOR
Fans of Rockstar Games’ epic Grand Theft Auto series may be in for a special treat in the next couple of days, as rumors suggest that the company may be re-releasing one of its most critically-acclaimed installments in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year since being released on October 26, 2004.
In a report on IGN, a re-release may be imminent for the Xbox 360, as Xbox Achievements reports a list of new achievements for the system. This lends credence to the rumor that Rockstar may be planning a re-release of San Andreas for current consoles that supports Trophies, Achievements, and other new features.
Another reason why a re-release of GTA: San Andreas may be in the cards is because the game has been pulled from the Xbox Classics list from Xbox Live Marketplace. Also, the Playstation 2 Classics version in the North American Playstation Store has been discounted significantly, and has been removed altogether from the European Playstation Store.
While no official announcement has been made, there’s still a few days left until San Andreas officially hits 10 years on October 26, so expect some news to come in the next few days.
As one of the most popular installments in the series, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is set in the early 90’s and sees players control Carl “CJ” Johnson, a young African-American man who comes home to the fictional town of Los Santos after hearing the news that his mother has been murdered. Reuniting with his old gang and seeing the state of disarray his neighborhood, CJ takes it upon himself to reconnect with his friends and fix things in his home turf. Unfortunately bad elements, corrupt cops, and circumstances beyond his control force the young man to travel cross-country and around the entire San Andreas, with the player’s actions and decisions determining how CJ fares in his path to making everything better for himself and those around him.
Stay tuned for more news on the possible GTA: San Andreas re-release as it comes. — TJD, GMA News
