WATCH: New Patlabor live action movie teaser whets fans' appetites

Fans waiting for the new "Patlabor" movie can whet their appetites with a new teaser trailer released this month.

The new movie, "The Next Generation Patlabor," pits the familiar Ingram mechas against a terrorist organization, Waku2Japan.com reported.

Due for release in April 2015, the movie supposedly centers on the heroes' fight against a terrorist group that holds Tokyo hostage.

A copy of the trailer posted on YouTube showed the mechas sustaining major damage while fighting off the villains.

Last August, the mecha - or at least a movie prop version of them - showed how tough they were by surviving Typhoon Jose (Halong).

Citing photos by Twitter users, Kotaku.com narrated that the mecha was still standing on Aug. 9 when Halong first hit.

"Not only did the giant mecha still function as it should, this was the last night the Ingram was to be displayed in Osaka. Thankfully, the typhoon passed in time," Kotaku.com said.

In the "Patlabor" universe, the Ingram AV-98 was rolled out in 1998, and can lift up to 2.4 metric tons.
