New features of Samsung Galaxy S6 leak out
A full 64-bit chip, an in-house LTE modem, and improved battery life - these are among the rumored new features of Samsung's next flagship smartphone, an enthusiast site reported.
SamMobile said the upcoming Galaxy S6 has been codenamed Project Zero, indicating the Korean electronics firm is building the new smartphone "from scratch."
Citing information it received, SamMobile said the Galaxy S6 will use the new Exynos 7420, a "fully 64-bit chip with four Cortex-A53 and four Cortex-A57 cores."
This would be an upgrade from the 32-bit Snapdragon 805 processor found in most models of the Note 4.
It would also complement Google's Android Lollipop, which has 64-bit support.
A second unique feature is an internally developed LTE modem (model SS333 or Exynos Modem 333), though there may still be a Snapdragon variant.
Meanwhile, SamMobile said the Galaxy S6 could use Broadcom’s new BCM4773 chip, which combines navigation (GPS) and other sensors into a single chip.
Aside from being an industry first, it allows the device to take and compute data from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS modules on a single chip - meaning reduced battery drain.
Other likely features include:
- a Quad HD (2560×1440) display
- the IMX240 camera sensor, the same one on the Galaxy Note 4. Samsung is reportedly still deciding between a 16- and 20-megapixel camera. The front camera will be upgraded to 5 megapixels
- internal storage options of 32, 64 and 128GB, removing the 16GB option
SamMobile also said it is likely the S6 will still use 3GB of RAM, which it said "should be more than enough to handle every task." — Joel Locsin/JST, GMA News
