Nvidia to launch cloud-based game streaming

Here's an incentive for mobile gaming addicts to consider a tablet or console from graphics card maker Nvidia: cloud-based gaming.

A report on tech site The Verge said Nvidia will launch an improved version of its "Grid" gaming service Nov. 18, initially for North America.

"(W)estern Europe will follow in December and parts of Asia in 2015. If you're using either a Shield tablet or a portable console, you'll have access to around 20 cloud games," it said.

Arkham City, Borderlands 2

The games include some major AAA titles like Arkham City and Borderlands 2, but gamers might not find the latest releases, The Verge added.

Also, The Verge noted that when Nvidia first announced the Android-powered Shield console, it promised a powerful gaming experience on a five-inch screen.

Late last year, Nvidia publicly tested its "Grid" service that let Shield owners near its San Jose data center to stream games.

The report said Nvidia will be relying on a revamped software infrastructure and a new East Coast-based data center.

Free till June

While Nvidia's "Grid" may face formidable competition from Sony's "PlayStation Now" service, a big come-on is that Nvidia's games are free until June 30, 2015. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
