Chromebook to support 'OK Google' smart voice search

Soon, your Chromebook laptop can respond to you when you holler, "OK Google."

That is if ongoing work at the Dev Channel makes it out of the laboratory, a developer on the Chromium project said.

"Restart your device, go to Chrome OS Settings and check 'Enable Ok Google to start a voice search' to train your device to respond to the sound of your voice by saying three times 'Ok Google,'" François Beaufort said in a Google+ post.

But he noted this is still an experimental feature, which can be activated by toggling the chrome://flags/#enable-hotword-hardware flag.

A user's voice and audio activity will be easily accessible at https://history.google.com/history/audio.

Meanwhile, PC World quoted Beaufort as saying that once the feature is in place, "you can speak questions whenever your Chromebook’s screen is awake and unlocked."

"Keep in mind that this is still just an experimental feature in a developer version of the Chromebook’s software, and there’s no telling when it’ll make it into the consumer version of the Chromebook OS, if at all, so don’t get too excited just yet," it added. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
