Mozilla promotes transparency with see-through Firefox phone

What better way for a tech company to promote transparency than with a see-through shell for its phone?

A new smartphone powered by Mozilla's Firefox OS was designed to stress transparency with such a shell, Mozilla said in a blog post.

Dubbed Fx0, the phone was created in partnership with Japanese telecoms firm KDDI.

"World-famous designer, Tokujin Yoshioka, designed the Fx0 to make sure the openness, freedom and transparency that are core to the Mozilla mission and values of Firefox OS, are shown in the device," it said.

Under the hood, the new phone has the latest version of Firefox OS, which supports technologies like NFC, 4G LTE, and WebRTC.

For his part, KDDI president Takashi Tanaka said KDDI "hopes to build the new era of the Web through Web of Things, enabling everyone to create custom connected Web experiences.”

Powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, while an effort with Omron Software allows Japanese character input using flick and toggle operations.

"Furthermore, by placing the Firefox logo on the home button, the front of the device also asserts its originality," Mozilla said.

The phone is built by LG, and has a 4.7-inch/IPS display, along with an 8-MP rear camera and 2.1-MP front camera.

It has a 16GB memory ROM and 1.5GB RAM. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
