Naked Snake to sport Chicken Hat in ‘Phantom Pain’
By TIM G. VILLASOR

What fans thought to be a “special announcement” just in time for Christmas turned into one of the most unexpected trolling events in video games just before 2014 ended, as Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima showed off an item that fans can use in the upcoming sequel “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain”, and it’s a silly one to boot.
Talking on his “Kojima Station” live stream video channel, the Japanese game developer behind Snake—and who also helped popularize stealth action games as a genre—held a special episode that lasted about three hours. Fans who tuned in were expecting a big announcement, particularly the official release date for “The Phantom Pain,” which was only given a vague window of “sometime in 2015.”
But towards the tailend of the livestream special, Kojima finally pulled the curtain and revealed his surprise : a new item and accessory called the “Chicken Hat” that players can equip Snake and use to help navigate through enemy territory.
According to Kotaku, To get this item, players need to die, get caught, or fail a mission numerous times. Afterwards, the game will prompt you if “you would like to use a chicken cap? Yes or no”. If yes is selected, Snake will be using and wearing a Chicken Hat, which makes him slightly invisible to enemy sight and not that noticeable so he can sneak through enemy territory.
The trade off however is that it looks downright silly, and the item will appear during cutscenes. Kojima didn’t reveal anything else afterwards, and the release date for the game still remains a mystery.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be available for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. — TJD, GMA News
