Nokia Lumia 2520 may be the beginning of the end for Windows RT

Microsoft may soon pull the plug on Windows RT, the less powerful version of its flagship operating system: if its reported plan to stop making a Nokia tablet is any indication, a tech site reported this week.

PC World cited a report by Dutch publication PCM indicating Microsoft has decided to stop manufacturing the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet—the last device running RT.

Microsoft launched RT in 2012 but PC World noted the response to Windows RT had been poor.

While manufacturers stopped making devices running on RT, even Microsoft scrapped a plan to launch a small tablet running Windows 8.1 RT.

On the other hand, Windows RT tablets will not be upgraded to the upcoming Windows 10.

"That could bring a quiet end to Microsoft’s experiment with Windows RT, which was built for tablets and PCs based on ARM processors," PC World said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
