Nokia adds 3D venue maps, improved routing to ‘Here’ mapping app

Nokia has added new smart features – such as 3D maps and a route planner – to its "Here" mapping app for mobile devices running Google's Android.

The latest update to "Here" on Google Play showed the new app now has interactive 3D maps of shopping centers and airports in 70 countries.

It also features a route planner that displays driving, public transit and walking routes on one screen "so you can compare options at a glance."

Users can now tap on any place icon on the map to find out more about the area, and learn about nearby traffic incidents.

The app also allows a user to download maps in the background, and voices to the SD card.

Other features include:

- adjusted volume for turn-by-turn voice-guidance
- support for devices with 64-bit processors

A separate article on PC World noted Nokia also reserves a greater part of the screen for the map content.

"Nokia’s Here map has slowly grown to be the best alternative to Google Maps on Android. Originally it was just for Samsung devices, but since then has expanded to availability for anyone running Android 4.1 or above," it noted.

PC World said Nokia's offline maps feature is "particularly strong in Europe." — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
