Chinese Apple Watch knockoffs now out on the market

Consumers who can't afford the the fancy new Apple Watch may have a much cheaper option: cheap knockoffs from China.

Many of the more recent models appear to surface after Apple officially unveiled its new smart watch, enthusiast site 9to5mac.com reported.

"While some of the fakes look undeniably cheap, others look pretty convincing–at least in render form," it said.

Citing a report from Business Insider, it said fakes could sell for a little over $40.

A separate report on GizChina.com said Zeaplus has come up with the Zeaplus G2 to clone the new watch.

It said Zeaplus' clone will feature a heart rate monitor, activity monitor, and app features - with color options including silver, gray and gold.

According to 9to5mac, some clones even used the Apple Watch name and logo, "and some of them copying the design details all the way down to the four sensors on the back of the watch."

One company even advertised an “iWatch” using the slogan “Knockoff Apple watches have hit the market!” the site added.

For its part, tech site Mashable noted the fake watches have "the same square watch face as the Apple Watch, and also feature circular app icons on the display."

"Of course, they're likely far less advanced, technologically speaking," it said.

Mashable also noted that while the fakes cost $45 to $80, the real thing starts at $349, and up to $17,000 for the high-end rose gold watch. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
